March strode in with 3 planets in fiery Aries: Mars, Venus and Uranus. Venus was exactly conjunct the South Node of the Moon, while the Moon herself was in her own sign of Cancer. The Moon was forming a T-square with Uranus and Pluto, who were just weeks shy of their final exact square of the 7 making up this historical and tumultuous era! Jupiter at 14 degrees Leo was opposed Mercury at 14 degrees Aquarius, and both were in strong aspect to the 14 degree Uranus in Aries, by trine and sextile respectively. The Sun was conjunct Neptune in Pisces.
The first moment of a cycle can tell us a lot about what may unfold, and this initiation of March was no exception. There will be dynamic tension, transformative energies, and potential for creative change during this month. There could be confusion, impulsive actions and reactions we either celebrate or regret. But know that you, and the world you live in, is definitely changing.
On March 2, the Moon moved into Leo and formed a Grand Trine in Fire with Saturn in Sagittarius and Mars in Aries. There is much enthusiasm in this aspect, and perhaps a feeling that you are much more than you ever imagined. A bit later in the day, the Moon joined Jupiter in Leo in opposing Mercury in Aquarius. Despite the fixed signs, this aspect created an opening for experiencing new visions of what is possible, and expanding the status quo paradigm, both in the collective and in your own mind.
By March 3, Venus conjoined Uranus and both were trine Jupiter. It was time to fall in love with the new parts of yourself that you are birthing, and having faith that you are on the right path! There was a realization that all those ideas and behaviors that you have been shedding were truly the right thing to do, no matter how slowly it goes, or how difficult! We will need, and receive, the positive reinforcement of Venus and Jupiter later in the month as well.
We had the Full Moon in Virgo on March 5th at 10:04 AM PST. The Moon was at 14 degrees 50 minutes Virgo, the Sun of course at 14 degrees 50 minutes Pisces. They were in resonance with Uranus at 14 degrees 42 minutes Aries, Venus at 15 degrees 50 minutes Aries, Pluto at 15 degrees 06 minutes Capricorn and Jupiter at 14 degrees 21 minutes Leo. This resonance of over half the bodies in our solar system at mid-sign was echoed in our own souls—the importance of how we must work with or in congruence with, our own heart and soul’s desire. Too often we allow ourselves to be pulled off our path by what other people, or society, or our conditioning, tell us we should be doing.
From the 5th to the 11th, the Sun is conjunct Chiron in Pisces. From the 5th until the 15th, Mars is conjunct Uranus in Aries. These are times to be particularly conscious of our inner process. Wounding situations or attitudes that have been repressed or hidden deep in the psyche could get triggered and emerge as sadness, anger or other emotional distress! Just remember, what emerges is important to honor, process, and integrate. Some things can be integrated quickly. Others take time. Support and patience is generally required, particularly when Mars and Uranus are joined at the hip in Aries!
On March 12, Mercury moves into Pisces, and begins to build to conjunction with Neptune. This is a good time to be more open to your dreams between the 12th and 19th. Dreams can help us to process distress in the outer world, as well as the inner world. They are the manifestation of the unconscious doing the work that needs to be done on our psyche.
As we complete the second week of the month, the pressure of the final Uranus/Pluto square has built to its final climax. All this month the two planets are never more than ½ degree apart. At mid-month the square screams in exactitude! On March 16, at 3:43 PM PDT, both planets are at 15 degrees 18 minutes. We have been living in extraordinary times, a period of transformation unprecedented for those of us alive today. The waxing Uranus/Pluto square is a mirror of this historical era, and we will be living with the changes for the rest of our lives. What has outlived its usefulness has either crumbled or is in a state of dissolution and chaos. What the world is calling for is in a state of creation or preparing to be born.
We can cooperate with these evolutionary changes, or we can deny the need for them and/or pretend that a move backward in time and culture will somehow solve 21st century issues. Will we continue to exploit, as profit for the few, the delicate balance of hospitable conditions for humans to survive on the planet? Or will we learn how to cooperate, share, and attempt to live in a respectful sustainable manner? Will we keep waging unnecessary perpetual war, again as profit for the few, while creating the death and destruction of so many? Or can we accept that we must cooperate, share, and attempt to live in a respectful sustainable manner? Will we continue to institutionalize disrespect and disdain for certain kinds of people and other beings while retaining belief systems that endow privilege on the few? Or will we humbly feel gratitude and esteem for all, while cooperating, sharing, and attempting to live in a respectful sustainable manner? The choice is ours.
Decades ago, R. Buckminster Fuller said, “ It is now highly feasible to take care of everybody on Earth at a higher standard of living than any have ever known. It no longer has to be you or me. Selfishness is unnecessary. War is obsolete. It is a matter of converting the high technology from weaponry to livingry.” Bucky was ahead of his time, but it is not too late to heed his wisdom.
Venus moves into her own sign of Taurus on March 17, just in time to give us some sense of personal grounding during these explosive days of the final Uranus/Pluto square. Jupiter in Leo, despite moving retrograde, continues to trine Uranus and quincunx Pluto. It feels like Venus and Jupiter can be seen as potent sources of strength and self-love at this time, while all around us we may see conflict, chaos and fear!
The last days before the New Moon on the 20th, when the Moon is in her Balsamic, or “finishing up” stage, we may find ourselves feeling tired “for no reason.” Getting more sleep, more dream time, is a great idea. Our unconscious is busy sorting, integrating, clearing. What is it I really want? Where am I going? Am I feeling congruent? We are not only ending a Moon cycle now, but a seasonal one as well.
The New Moon in Pisces arrives on March 20 at 2:35 AM PDT and is the occasion of a Total Solar Eclipse. On the very same day, 13 hours later at 3:46 PM PDT, the Sun moves into Aries, to begin the season of Spring. It is the Vernal Equinox. It is a fairly rare phenomenon for an equinox and solar eclipse to occur on the same day. However, during this century there will be a total of three, each 19 years after the other.
As you can see, this month of March includes an amazing array of astronomical as well as astrological phenomena to intrigue us, perhaps confuse and even confound us. But we must be up to the challenge! This is our era, this is our time, this is our life! Everyone living today is challenged to make changes in his/her own path, belief system, intentions and lifestyle, as reflected in each person’s individual astrological data.
The remainder of the month remains tense, but the faster moving bodies do alleviate, or at least vary, the stress. On March 22, for instance, the Moon conjuncts Venus in early Taurus, and the next day, while still in Taurus, squares Jupiter, and then trines Pluto. We can ground our emotions by staying in the moment, and focusing on accomplishing a task. On the 24th, Mercury conjuncts Chiron, and our minds may wander into self-pity land. But, the Moon in Gemini opposes Saturn in Sagittarius while the Sun trines Saturn and sextiles the Moon. These aspects say, “Wait a minute! This will not bring me down! I’m bigger than this!”
By March 25, Venus squares Jupiter, and remains in that aspect through the end of the month. This aspect does not provide ease, particularly in fixed signs. There could be a tendency to resentment if conflicts arise with others, so be conscious of the need to be open to new ideas and perspectives.
On the 27th, the Uranus/Pluto square is joined by the Moon in Cancer, and the three form a T-square for the day, just as we saw in the beginning days of the month,. The sensitivity of the Moon will challenge us to be more than we are. The Dalai Lama says it best: “We can let the circumstances of our lives harden us so that we become increasingly resentful and afraid, or we can let them soften us, and make us kinder. You always have the choice.”
On the 29th, the Sun in Aries forms a Grand Trine in fire with the Moon and Jupiter in Leo and Saturn in Sagittarius. This emphasizes the fiery, impulsive energy of Aries. By the end of the following day, Mercury has moved into Aries as well. The month goes out in a blaze of fire, reminding us of how it came in!
See you next month!
