Get Ready for Mercury Retrograde

by Madeline Gerwick

Madeline Gerwick AstrologerHave you encountered car problems? How about issues with your computer, phone or tablet? These are common precursors to Mercury retrograde and a sign that you need to do some prep. If your car is acting funny, NOW is the time to get it diagnosed and repaired. By the end of next week, when Mercury retrograde begins on February 23rd, the repair shops will start filling up and it will be harder to do this.

Now is also the time to get your complete, computer system back-ups done. I especially recommend you do this at least 3-4 days prior to Feb 23rd (when Mercury retrograde begins), so it won't take as long to do. As we get closer and closer to that date, Mercury gets slower and slower, and so do our computer systems. This is also true of traffic problems as more break downs begin to occur.

This coming Mercury retrograde has more challenges than usual. For starters, it's in the sign of Pisces, where it's considered to be debilitated. When it moves backward through that sign, it's considered to be doubly debilitated. Details? Out the window! If you're not double-checking them now, you're likely to be making plenty of mistakes. One woman has sent me three emails she intended to send to her husband. It's a funny story unless your email gets into the wrong hands. Be VERY careful now and check all details!

Second, this Mercury will square Jupiter again, which tends to overestimate how great things will be and gloss over details. This Mercury is boastful, even when it has nothing to really boast about. Our saving grace is that while this is occurring, Mercury is also trine Saturn. So there's a sense of reality and good logistics that come into play. This cycle is the best part of this Mercury retrograde, and it helps to keep things on track and done correctly.

We're fortunate that we have this cycle (Mercury trine Saturn), since it's ideal for planning, good logistics and getting those details nailed down better. This cycle peaks on February 12th, and stays in range through February 19th. Then it comes back into range again on February 27th. It peaks a second time on very late March 6th Pacific time, and in the wee hours of March 7th Eastern time. It stays in range the second time until it peaks a third time on March 28th. Considering the chaos of late March, we're especially fortunate to have this cycle in the midst of the explosions occurring then. There's hope for some rational thinking to occur then!

Mercury retrogrades are ideal for redoing anything. They're great for research, reviewing anything, rethinking, replanning, repairing, etc. However, they're terrible for new starts. They're naturally intended to help you catch up, and this means it's not time for new starts. If you're planning to start a new project, this is the perfect time to rethink your plan, reconsider your schedule and look carefully again at all details. Then when it's over you'll be ready to take action.
